Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. As much as I love a classic date, such as dinner and a movie or dinner and a concert, I REALLY love not-so-basic dates. My boyfriend and I love to be spontaneous and adventurous so we try to find fun and exciting things to do that we can both enjoy. Here’s my top five favorite not so basic date ideas!

Go for a Hike.

… but bring a cooler so you can snack and drink afterwards! Or take the entire dang Jeep for a romp through the woods! One of our favorite spots somewhat close to us is Pere Marquette State Park in Illinois (& they have awesome camp sites, as well!). We love to go for a hike and then stop along the River Road for some food and beer.

Have a Super Extra Movie Night

… like with a firepit and projector movie outside! Or mattress in the floor! Greg set up our projector *aff link* up on the ceiling of our garage and painted one wall white so that we could have a badass set-up for movie night. Our favorite movies include : Enemy at the Gates, Fury and Inglorious Bastards (see a theme?).

Go for a Long, Long Drive

We’re both car people and love to drive. Especially with the doors and/or roof off! A long day of talking, listening to our favorite music and usually, stopping for some food and a beer makes for a good day!

Range Day Date!

We’re both avid shooters and enjoy ringing some steel on a nice day. A trip to a local long range or to the indoor range always makes for a good time. Or load ammo together before a match … and have tacos for dinner. We do this in the summer and it’s so much fun (for us, at least, lol).

Work on Home or Car Projects Together!

We’ve built a headboard for our bedroom, a retaining wall in our front yard, put beautiful vinyl flooring in our kitchen/dining room and we have a big deck project coming up! Little does he know that I’m painting all of our cabinets and vanities here in the next couple of weeks, as well! We also built my Trans Am and did a few little baby mods to our cars along the way. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure is fun for us 🙂

Once the world opens back up, we can go back to our classic date nights, but until then, we need to get creative! Think outside of the box and get out of your comfort zone!

What are some of your favorite date night ideas??
