Never in a million years did I think I’d feel the need to write about the importance of being a kind person but HERE WE ARE! Understandably, the weight of the world is upon nearly everyone’s shoulders. But, that should never be an excuse to be an ugly person. Every day life is hard enough – don’t be a dick.

Day in and day out, every one has their personal responsibilities, whether they be work, home, social or other types of responsibilities. Personally, I have a lot on my plate, but I feel like I juggle it well. Some days and weeks are harder than others, but I’ve never used any of it as an excuse to be a rotten person towards anyone – even towards people that treat me like shit.

I was initially going to write this as a fuck you to a person who recently decided to treat me like shit, on more than one occasion, for no reason at all. But, instead, I’d like to share why it’s so much better to be a good and kind person, rather than an all around repulsive person.

Why Should You Be Kind?

  • No one, I repeat, NO ONE, likes a shitty person. No one wants to talk to them, hang out with them, or even associate with them. Is it always easy to be kind? Absolutely not, but it’s certainly more worth it than being shitty.
  • It costs nothing to be kind. And people always remember good encounters with good people. Do they also remember assholes? Of course, but they’re written off and forgotten about a little bit more often.
  • Kind people attract other kind people. Kind people tend to be more open minded, successful and you guessed it, HAPPY.
  • Being kind is contagious. If you’re kind to someone who may be having a bad day, a bad week or just a bad go in general, chances are is that they’re going to have a better day, even if just for a moment.
  • You can be tough or have your own opinion and STILL be kind to others. Regardless of someone’s character, appearance, beliefs or opinions, you CAN be kind to them.
  • No one ever wants to be remembered as an asshole. I mean, if you do, then more power to you. But no one likes you, lol.

No matter who you are, you are never too important to be kind. You must understand everyone has their struggles, no matter how great they make their life out to be. You will never regret being kind. And you never know the kind of impact your kindness, or lack thereof, may have on a person. It won’t kill you to go out of your way to be kind, so make a small difference and don’t be a dick.
