Let’s talk books. Growing up, I LOVED to read. Reading was my jam. I was a little dork and would literally hide under my comforter with a little flashlight so my parents couldn’t yell at me for staying up too late. Now, as an adult, I look forward to time spent with my books. My lunch break at work is spent sitting in my Jeep, reading my book in silence. It’s my wind down, chill out time and quite frankly, one of my favorite times of the day. Today, I’m going to share some of my favorite inspiring books you should read to get your ass into gear.
A few months back, I caved and bought an Amazon Fire HD tablet (aff link) so I could use Kindle. I’m not going to lie – the convenience of having just about any book at your disposal is unreal. Every morning, I throw my tablet in my bag and end up downloading a new book every week or so. I do have quite a few hardcover books in my office because I love the aesthetic of actual books.
Right now, my favorite books to read are self-help and wellness books that focus on how to be more consistent within habits and how to train your mind. Here are a few of my most recent favorites.
“Can’t Hurt Me,” by David Goggins
I can’t stress how excellent this book is (aff link). I had the hardest time putting this book down. The author shares his absolutely incredible life story of coming from damn near nothing to being a Navy SEAL (after three BUD/S attempts) and later, an Army Ranger. He shares his 40% rule, which he believes most of us only tap into roughly 40% of our personal capabilities and how to train your body to overcome your mind. This is my favorite book to recommend to people. He’s also a very decorated ultra-athlete, which is just badass in itself. Give him a follow on Instagram, he’ll light a fire under your ass when you watch his videos.
“75 Hard,” by Andy Frisella
It’s no secret I love 1st Phorm as a company and as a community, especially since they are local to me. I have attempted #75Hard twice – once in 2019 (failed after 4 days) and again in 2020 (failed after 50 days, thanks C-19). The challenge is TOUGH. This book outlines the challenge, as well as the mindset needed to achieve success with the program. It’s an easy read and it’s a fun read. I can’t wait to read it again when I attempt 75Hard again for the third time.
“Unfu*k Yourself,” by Gary John Bishop
This was the first book (aff link) I read on my journey to building a better mindset … and it’s almost a self-help classic. The author stresses on the fact that you should take action and get shit done, which I am a big fan of. If you’re going to start out reading books to better yourself, I would start here.
Currently Reading :
I’m currently reading “Fit for Success,” by Nick Shaw (aff link) of Renaissance Periodization. This book is a great book so far on how to approach obstacles by developing habits that help us become successful and thrive in our day-to-day life. It’s all in the mindset, baby.
Next Up :
The next book on deck will be “Atomic Habits,” by James Clear (aff link). Miranda, from Street Parking, has really been hyping this book up and I’m really excited to read it.
The above books are some of my favorite inspiring books to get your ass in gear. They’re raw, full of relatable scenarios and they help light a fire when it’s most needed. I’m always happy to talk about books or take recommendations for books to add to my list of books I need to read.
I’d love to hear what your favorite books are in the comments!
