About a month after joining Street Parking, I purchased a Template from them. Template is a sustainable way of eating healthy without feeling deprived of things you love. One of the key ideas of Template is to eat at least one or two servings of veggies at every meal. But sometimes, the idea of creating a tasty, yet healthy meal 3-5 times a day can be a little overwhelming.

Insert BOWLS! Bowl life IS the best life, especially when it comes to eating clean. It’s so simple. Take your choice of protein, carb, veggie and fat, throw it in a bowl, top it off with your favorite seasoning and enjoy. It’s seriously the best. And so damn easy.

This past week, I made bowls for dinner every night except for last night. Last night was our weekly date night, where we cheat a little bit on our meal plan. We went up the road to a small dive bar for some burgers, pepper-jack cheese balls and a bucket of beer. We don’t go out very often, but when we do, we like to stay local and make sure to put our hard earned money back into our own community.

Anyways, back to this past week’s bowls. My personal kitchen hack for quick and easy bowl dinners is work smarter, not harder. Four words: RICE COOKER (aff link) and STEAMABLE VEGGIES. You’ll thank me later.

My absolute favorite and easy go-to bowl is always a burger bowl. It’s nothing more than lean ground beef, jasmine rice, avocado, broccoli and pickles. You can customize it to your wants and needs, but it’s simple and hits the spot whenever you’re craving a burger. I like to top it off with Everything But the Bagel seasoning.

Next up, I whipped up a steak bowl. Seasoned Carne Picada and bell peppers cooked in some liquid aminos, jasmine rice and avocado. Again, topped off with Everything seasoning, because it’s life. Simple, yet tasty.

Wednesday night, we did burger bowls again! I mean it when I say they’re my favorite. I didn’t have any avocados ready from my new batch so I opted for a tablespoon of olive oil as my fat and topped it off with some mustard.

To top off the work week, I made a batch of wholesome chili with a bunch of protein and veggies. I made enough so that we could bring leftovers to work for lunch since I didn’t make Friday lunches this week. Top it off with a scoop of plain Greek yogurt and half an avocado for a little extra protein and fat. Or, add whatever you want on top! It’s chili!

It doesn’t have to be difficult to make a hearty and healthy home-cooked meal. Don’t overthink it! Just break it down into proteins, carbs, veggies and fats and then cater to you and your family’s needs! Get creative and have fun with it!
